(WSC), 315 East 200 South M0402, Salt Lake City, <br />Utah, 84111 (801-534-3400), has filed, with the Colorado alined Land Reclamation <br />Division, an application fora permit renewal to conduct coal mining under pro- <br />visions of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act of 1979. The legal <br />description of the existing mine is as follows: <br />SE 1/4 and SW 1/4 SECTION 3, SE 1/4 and SW 1/4 SECTION 2, <br />SE 1./4 and S4J 1/4 SECTION 1, NE 1/4 and NW 1/4 SECTION 11, <br />NW 1/4, NE 1/4 and SW 1/4 SECTION 12 and SECTION 10 of <br />T13S, R90W. <br />Specific boundaries ar•e on file at the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division <br />Office in Denver, Colorado. The general location is 3 miles east of Somerset <br />west of the Paonia Reservoir in Gunnison County, Colorado along Colorado Highway <br />• 133 at an elevation of about 6200 feet (Figure 1). The surface of the permit area <br />is owned by Bureau of Land Management, Western Slope Carbon, Inc., U.S. Steel <br />Corporation, Colo-Ute Electric Company and Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. <br />The proposed post-mining use of the proposed permit area is wildlife habitat, <br />wildlife related recreation and grazing. Four miles of Colorado State Highway <br />133 will be relocated to the south side of the North Fork Gunnison River along the <br />mine. Additional information can be obtained from the Colorado Department of <br />Highways. USGS 7.5 minute ouadrangle map SOMERSET contains the described area of <br />the existing operation. A copy of the application is available for public inspec- <br />tion at the Gunnison County Courthouse, Gunnison, Colorado. IJritten comments, <br />objections or requests for an informal conference on the application may be sub- <br />matted to, and additional information obtained from, the Mined Land Reclmation <br />Division, Room 422, 1313 Sherman Street, Denver, Colorado, 80203. (303) 839-3567. <br />• Written comments, objections or requests for an informal conference must be filed <br />at the Division by 5:00 P.M on 19 March 1981. <br />
