Milts
Twentymile Coal Company
29515 Routt County Rd. #27
Oak Creek CO 80467
Re: Report -Slug Testing of Wells FI-1 and 008-AT-1
Dear Mr. Milts:
On August 2 and 3 alluvial wells FI-1 and 008-AT-1 were tested to estimate their permeability
and transmissivity. The water level data was collected with a pressure transducer and
electronic data recorder. Rising head tests were employed by "instantaneously' displacing a
slug of water by removing a PVC bailer. Aquifer pemmeability for well FI-1 was estimated to be
21 to 130 gpd/ftz and aquifer transmissivity was estimated to be 160 to 980 gpdfft. Aquifer
permeability for well 008-AT-1 was estimated to be 110 to 300 gpd/fiz and aquifer transmissivity
was estimated to be 640 to 1700 gpd/ft. The estimated aquifer properties are typical for a silty
sand.
An attempt was made to test well FI-2. However, it had an insufficient saturated thickness to
complete an accurate slug test.
Well Ft-1
The well is completed in the Fish Creek alluvium. The welt is constructed of 4 inch nominal ID
Schedule 40 PVC. The well reportedly has a screened interval of 4-ft. The well was reportedly
drilled with a 6-in diameter auger and gravel packed. The measured total depth of the well was
13.9 feet below ground surface. At the time the well was drilled, the highest water level
measured was 7.83 feet below ground surface
The well was tested on August 3, 1999. Arising head slug test was performed by
"instantaneously' removing a 3.5 In OD, 3.12-foot long bailer from the well. The water levels
were measured using a pressure transducer connected to an electronic data recorder. The data
collected is shown on Attachment A. The test was begun at 12:25p and the water level returned
to pre-test conditions within 20 minutes.
The data was analyzed by using methods developed by Bouwer 8 Rice (1976) and Cooper et
al. (1967). Plots of the data are presented on Figures 1 through 3. The results of the test are
summarized on Table 1
~ APPR©V~q) JUN 2 8 2000
James G.
