HYDF~L(X;IC BUDGET
Preface
J.V. Is~berts
An estimated water balance for Steven's Gulch, 1983, was prepared by t1r.
Vladimir Straskraba, hydrologist for Hydro-Geo Consulting. Necessitated by
the concern of cross-tract water recovery systems and non-off derived water
rights, this estimated water balance addresses the relationship between pre-
cipitation, evapotranspiration, surface runoff, and changes in storage.
Al though 1983 was chosen on the basis of more crniplete data recorded than in
previous years, it may rot be typical in teens of long-range climatic pat-
terns, bvapotranspiration values are lower than the anticipated values (15
to 16 inches per year) and may be the result of thick snowpack and short and
intense periods of melting, resulting in unusually high runoff values.
Continued long-term monitoring of the various caaponents will enable refine-
ment of the future hydrologic budget calculations.
C~
