2.05.6 Mitigation of Surface Coal Mining and Operation Impacts
(1) Air Pollution Control Plan
A listing of approved emission permits from the Colorado Department of
Health, Air Pollution Control Division, and permit applications are
contained in Appendix 16-1. Air pollution control permits will be applied
for as necessary.
(2) Fish and Wildlife Plan
Disturbances and adverse impacts on fish and wildlife and related
environmental values will be minimized based on current plans which do
not call for expansion of surface operations and facilities beyond the
affected surface area defined in this application.
Quality of water leaving the mine site will be monitored as specified in Tab
Section 18 to insure that the probability of adverse effects on fish and
other aquatic wildlife is minimized.
The effect the mine development will have on the endangered fish
species of the Colorado River Basin is determined by estimating the
annual depletion of water from the upper Colorado River caused by the
mine. The consumptive use of water associated with the mine includes
water used for dust suppression and losses due to evaporation. The
following table provides the surface area of each of the impoundments at
the mine.
Pond Surace Area Pond Surace Area
1 ~ 2 1.20 13 0.15
6 0.43 ND East Sum 0.04
7 0.06 ND West Sum 0.11
8 0.14 CBA-1 0.09
9 0.10 Cell1 0.02
10 0.28 Cells 2 - 4 2.74
11 0.54 Total 5.92
The above table shows the surface area of the ponds in acres that would
be subject to evaporative losses. The surface area for. pond 8 is for the
new pond 8 proposed as part of the land use change. ND designates
north decline. In general the acres provided are calculated at the level of
the dead pool.
I~
16-1 (Rev. 9/06)
