Known Cultural Resources <br />Tn the project azea: <br />In the general region: Overviews of the prehistory and history of the region are provided in the <br />Colorado Historical Societ~s„publications entitled "Northwest Colorado Prehistoric Context" <br />(Grady 1984) and "Colorado Plateau Country Historic Context" (Husband 1984). See attachment for <br />sites within one-mile of proiect area. <br />26. Expected Results: No significant resources were exRected because of the steep slopes and alluvial <br />nature of ~jcet azea <br />VI. STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES <br />27. The purpose of the study was to identify and record all cultural remains over 50 years old within the <br />azea of potential impact. to assess their significance and elip~bility to the National Register of Historic <br />Places (NRHP) and make recommendations con~emin_g_management. If possible the remains will <br />• add to our understanding_ofrheprehistory and hist~yr of the rein. <br />VII. FIELD METHODS <br />28. Definitions: Site Sites were defined as a discrete locus of patterned activity ereater than 50 years of <br />age and consisting of five or more prehistoric artifacts with or without features or over 50 historic <br />artifacts with associated features. Also, single isolated hearths with no other associated artifacts or <br />features were to be recorded as a site. <br />IF Isolated finds were defined as less than five artifacts without associated features. Exceptions to <br />this definition include historic trash duns without associated features- a single core reduction event <br />with a sing a core and associated reduction debitage• a single pot drop where the sherds are from a <br />single vessel• or a ,prospector pit with/or without artifacts and no associated historic structures or <br />29. Describe Survey Method: A 100 pen,ent pedestrian cultural resources survey ofthe block area was <br />made by one surveyor walking in zig_za_,~g transects to cover 20 block acres <br />A portion of the project area is disturbed by the Hubbazd Creek Road <br />VIII.
