COLOWYO COi'.L COMPANY
5]JI STATE mGHWAV p HEEeEP COLORA00 B16 a1
• ~ TELEPHONE (3031 B24 aa51
Dr. Clait Braun
Research Center
317 lJest Prospect
Ft. Collins, Co. 80522
Dear Dr. Braun:
November 24, 1980
In reference to our telephone conversation on November 21, 1980, I
would like to request any additional information you feel would be applicable
concerning sage grouse populations in and around the Colowyo permit area. I
have enclosed a map of the Colowyo federal lease and the state permit areas
which is outlined in red.
I have been communicating with Bill Clark in the DOW Grand Junction
office. Bill has sent me information the Division has available on deer, elk,
raptors, sage grouse, and blue grouse. We also met in September to discuss the
various mitigation measures and Habitat improvement programs Colowyo has initi-
• ated to reduce the impacts of mining on wildlife. Bill also sent me a map which
shows the sage grouse leks in Axial Basin, we know the mine site and surrounding
areas are used heavily by sage grouse from the nesting seasons through the fall
months for nesting and brood rearing.
I would be interested in any additional data you would have available,
and a discussion of any possible impacts on the species.
If 1 can answer any questions or provide any additional information,
please give me a call at the above number.
Thanks for your consideration.
.t.
Sincerely,
COLGWYO COAL COMPANY
v~~~C%i/~"'
A.D.
