Ca 95969
976.877-8052
raa: 910-877-04(72
1 finally got a chance W read the application for the 1'athfindcr Pit and calculate the quantities of material
that could ho mined. in the current permit layout 1 calculate :..at there rs approxintetely 480,000 cubic
yards of material. This includes overburden and any unsuiutble material such a, clay or dirt. Obviously
this quantify of material would easily be removed over a two year period tune, anti maybe less. 1 don't
think it would warrattt moving a very big operation into this pit.
1 realize the plan is to continue miring further down the hill inwards the creek. I am unsure ofexacily
how this would be accomplished. It appears from reading the permit apl~lic:ation that two things might
stand in the way of further excavation. One is the existing Hydropower Conduit and the other is the
I3iytorle Railroad Grade. It seems possible that the conduit could he moved, but it appears that the
railroad grade would present a greater problem.
1 attempted to calculate the material available ifotte was to leave the railroad grade in place and Utcn
excavate furihor down the hillside I Iowever, the slope from the railroad grade to llte river is already 1,5
to 1, As i see it one can only go either north or south to expand the mining area, but that seems unlikely.
These are my observations which arc always subject to error and misurtderswndiogs. I would welcome
any additional information available or corrections to my conclusions.
Sinccrcl ,
Jo to -I. Franklin
President
