• •
~~±~;~
SECTION V11: Summar~~ and Reeommendations
1z.as
It is recommended that the -~'?5 acre area of undertaking for the
proposed Pathfinder gravel plt be considered free of any cultural resources
which may be eligible for either the Colorado State or National Registers of
Historic Places. Only one cultural resource is actually located within the
1A.75-acre AU for the Pathfinder pit. This is Segment 17 of the Rio grande
Southern Railroad grade (5SM2030.17). As discussed, this portion of the
grade has been badly disturbed and has no surviving features associated
with the original railroad. The Matterhorn Mill Site and the associated
Segment 1 ~ of the Rio Grande Southern grade are situated more than 500
--feet south of the southern boundary of the Pathfinder AU and will not be
adversely affected by development and operation of the gravel pit. No
mitigation measures of any kind are believed appropriate to the permitting
procedure for the Pathfinder project. It is recommended that the SHPO
issue an expeditious statement of "no adverse effect" to the Division of
Mining and Geology for the Pathfinder pit.
Pathfinder Gravel PIt Jn Mgrch I~ 1495
