During the reclamation phase, disturbed areas <br />will be graded, disced or ripped, topsoil redistributed, and seeded. <br />E.3 RECLAMATION TYPE PROPOSED <br />IRI proposes to restore the disturbed lands to wildlife habitat and <br />rangeland, consistent with the existing land use as described below. <br />E,3.1 Present Land Use <br />The present land use on the lease consists primarily of livestock grazing, <br />wildlife habitat, hunting, and nahcolite exploration activity, The <br />immediate surrounding land use (as well as the large majority of the <br />• Piceance Creek Basinj is livestock grazing, wildlife habitat, and hunting, <br />Some coal and oil sh~31e projects are located in and around the Piceance <br />Basin, Many cattle ranches operate along the major streams, including <br />Piceance Creek, with much of the valley floor in hay meadows. <br />E.3.2 Post-Mining Land Use <br />The proposed post-mining land use will be livestock grazing and wildlife <br />habitat. The reclamation plan presented herein has been designed to provide <br />a permanent vegetative cover that, in terms of productivity and quality, is <br />at least equal to the existing vegetative cover in surrounding areas. Upon <br />abandonment of the site, disturbed surfaces will be recontoured, topsoil <br />replaced, and the area seeded. Mulching materials will be used and <br />fertilizer applied in only limited amounts. Seeding will be carried out <br />between September and November. <br /> <br />E-2 <br />
