Process electrical power is supplied by a pair of 400-kw natural gas
fueled generators.
The process flow sheet. shows streams going to the three evaporation ponds to
allow separation of the wastes. The bleed-off water stream (Stream No. 47)
flows to Pond No. 2 which subsequently overflows to Pond No. 3. Pond No. 1
receives boiler blowdown, cooling tower blowdown, and purge waters from the
filtration and water treatment steps. Flows to Ponds No. 2 and 3 total 2.6
gallons per minute. Flows to Pond No. 1 totals 0.4 gallons per minute.
All waste streams will flow to the evaporation ponds. Estimated quantities
of solid material remaining in each pond, after two years of operation, are:
Pond No. 1 - 33 tons (miscellaneous salts and insolubles)
Pond No. 2 - 720 tons (nahcolite)
Pond No. 3 - 620 tons (NaCI)
When operation of the Pilot Plant ceases, the solid material remaining in
Ponds No. 2 and 3 will be either sold or disposed of in an approved off-site
landfill (depending on material purity). The material remaining in Pond No.
• 1 (the pond receiving boiler and cooling tower blowdown and water treatment
and filtration purge water) will be disposed of in an approved off-site
landfill.
D-5
