gravelly loamy sand. The substratum to a depth of 60 inches is light
• yellowish brown extremely gravelly sand.
Permeability. of the Nesda Variant soil is moderately rapid. Available
water capacity is low. Runoff is very slow, and the hazard of water
erosion is slight.
This unit is used for irrigated hay and pasture.
The Apmay soil is well suited to hay and pasture. It has few
limitations. The Nesda soil is moderately well suited to hay and
pasture. The main limitation is the low water holding capacity.
Fertilizer is needed to ensure optimum growth of grasses and legumes.
Crop residue left on or near the surface helps to conserve moisture,
maintain tilth, and control erosion.
• The permit and adjacent areas have been previously covered with coal as
a result of past, pre-Mt. Harris activities and also during the more
recent and current Mt. Harris activities. No topsoil had been stripped
prior to any past disturbance and, therefore, coal material will be
found mixed with any virgin soil in the area.
L~
2.04.9-2
