• III. Outline of WBCC's Existing and Projected Operation
This chapter epecificnlly details the impact that WBCC has hnd on the area's
employment, population and fiscal capabilities. The projected impact of
hiring 31 additional workers will also be outlined. The initial section of
this chapter considers the characteristics of the direct and indirect
workforce attributable to WSCC's current and projected plans.
A. Characteristics of the Workforce
Both the existing 319 employees and the proposed 31 additional miners will be
discussed. Initially, the migration patterns of workers will be examined.
Recall that BOB of Nawk's Nest workforce currently resides in the farm
coarmunities of Paoni a, Notchkis s, Delta and Crawford (Table I-2). An
important issue was to determine if the workers were indigenous to the area,
necessitating a migration pattern analysis. If the workers already live in
• the area, hence receiving services and paying texes, then the expansion of
Nawk's Nest should have little adverse impact on the economic infrastructure
of a town. The following section contains a discussion of the origin of
Bawk's Nest employees.
1. Origin/Migration Patterns
To calibrate areas from which the 31 new hires might be drawn, a question
was included in the survey instrument (question 1k2) to determine if
employment at Hawk's Nest necessitated changing residence. The results of
the survey are arrayed on Table III-1.
C]
37
