March 25, 1999
:DIVED
Division of fvlineral and Geolotti
1313 Sherman St '~~,_'~ =~-0
~~~~
Denver. Co. 80203
.:-er:~~s 3 iieclagy
To whom it may concern:
I am writing this letter to express my concern with All Rite Paving & Redi Mix's application for a mining
pemut at Sec.l & 36, Township 23 & 24 S. Range 55 W, 6th Prime Meridian, also known as 30000 hwy
194 La Junta, Co. S 1050. I Gve and farm in the area next to this proposed site. This is and has always been
solely an amicultural azea. Some of my concerns are, the site is right next to a river, and sewer lagoon .
Some of their previous sites have had leaking fuel and they have dumped their scrapped asphalt chunks in
arroyos. The water table is currently so hi¢h I am concerned the digging will cause the water to spread out
and ruin surrounding farmland even more. I am wortied the sand piles and dirt they will mine, will blow and
effect our livestock's health as well as other livestock in the area, increasing respiratory problems. I am
worried about the stagnant pools of water that may fortq causing increased mosquito breeding grounds.
This mine site will lower our property values and make it hazder to eet on and off the road with our farts
equipment. The Otero Counry Planning Commission voted unanimously to deny their request to have a sand
and gravel operation on this site. They felt this request would not incorporate reasonable means to create an
environment harmonious with that of surrounding properties and that the request will adversely affect [he
public health,safery and welfare.
Sincerely,
C, /~JO, friA.~tr
Kathy Cranson
30943 Hwy 194
La ]unta,Co. S 1050
