I~ • III lillliilllllliil ~
- - ------------------------------------------------
WEST GREELEY SOIL CONSERVATION DISTRICT
4302 WEST 9TH STREET ROAD
GREELEY, COLORADO 80634
(303) 356-6506
May 18, 1993 MAY 19 1994
e~~:~,
Division of Minerals and Geology ~ ~''~~ ~'uier~~
1313 Sherman St . Room 215 `' ~~~.cc,y
Denver, CO 80203
The West Greeley Soil Conservation District has complei:ed an
on-site inspection of the River Valley Rock, Inc., perniit #
M-77-522, and has the following comments: The district: has
no objection to the expansion of the existing pit as wee
would rather see all of the resources used from one existing
pit than to see another pit developed on agricultural land.
The reclamation plan seems feasible as long as it is
implemented as stated. One concern that the district has is
that the topsoil may have a tendency to slide down the slope
into the lake when it is placed on top of the sand. We
would prefer to see some method used to stabilize the slope,
perhaps a form of trench or other anchoring devices that
could be efficiently placed to prevent movement. During my
visit I noticed that the reclamation was in progress and
seems to be on-going. This will help stabilize the
shoreline as the materials will have time to settle. T1'ie
problem is that if a hard surface is allowed to form on the
slope the topsoil will move down the slope even more
quickly..The slope should be ripped or roughed up before the
topsoil is placed over it.
The District will assist in planning grass seeding varieties
and quantities if asked. We can also assist in windbre~ik
planning and procurement of trees for conservation use. Our
staff can assist in solving erosion and water flow problems.
Please feel free to contact us if needed.
Thank You
-f 1 ~-~-~.-~/
Michael G.
