Gonzales, District Conservationist <br />Subject: Reclamation Plan for Starlin Pit; 5W4 section 10, T1N, <br />R53W, 6PM <br />INTRODIICTION <br />The following is a reclamation plan for SW4 section 10, <br />Township 1 North, Range 53 West, of the 6 P.M., Washington <br />County, Colorado. This reclamation plan involves an approximate <br />160 acre site. No operations had been conducted prior to the <br />field visit on March 31, 2003. The approximate elevation of the <br />area ranges from 4725 to 4760 feet. This site is gently sloping <br />to strongly undulating with no definite drainage pattern. <br />SITE DESCRIPTION <br />Soils <br />The site is located in Republican River drainage and consists of <br />Eckley-Orsa gravelly sandy loam, Ascalon fine sandy loam, Platner <br />loam, Rago silt loam, and Wages-Ascalon loams. The Eckley-Orsa <br />gravelly loam, is a deep, well-drained soil. The surface is a <br />gravelly sandy loam. The upper portion of the subsoil is a <br />gravelly sandy clay loam; the lower portion of the subsoil is <br />gravelly sand. This soil has a moderate permeability. The <br />available water holding capacity is low. Effective rooting depth <br />is 60 inches or more. Runoff is medium too rapid and the erosion <br />hazard due to wind is moderate. The Orsa soil is a deep, somewhat <br />excessively drained soil. It formed in sandy alluvium from <br />sandstone materials. The surface is a gravelly sandy loam. The <br />upper portion of the underlying material is a gravelly coarse <br />sandy loam, the lower portion of the underlying material to a <br />depth of 60 inches or more is gravelly sand. This soil has a <br />rapid permeability. The available water holding capacity is low. <br />Roots penetrate to a depth of 60 inches or more. Runoff is slow <br />and the erosion hazard due to wind is moderate. This soil is land <br />capability class and subclass VIe.
