•
Similarly, request a reduction in the production standard so that it is
equivalent to the standard of the Hillside community. Thus, the production standard
would be 500 pounds per acre.
3. Whatever the final values are that are chosen for the standards of the Valley
Bottom community, they should be identical to those of the Hillside community, even
if that means changing the latter (the species diversity standazd is presently the same
for both communities, and no woody stem density standazd applies to either). It is
important that the two communities be considered to be one sampling unit when a
statistical demonstration is carried out. The site is extremely small (less than 4 acres),
and the Hillside community is especially so. When considered as two sampling units,
the site does not lend itself to randomized sampling without the strong possibility of an
overlap in the transects, which would then introduce error into the final cover
estimate. Combining the two communities into one sampling unit would alleviate
some of the concern.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
•
•
Sincerely,
f
Matthew S.
