K. Holder Page 2 of 2
September 24, 2002
FMM has also indicated that the northwestern portion of Subarea 3 will be used for temporarily stockpiling mined
gravel before it is hauled off site (Figure 1). This area is upgradient of the area to be mined and dewatered.
Therefore, any runoff or infiltration draining from the gravel should ultimately be captured by the dewatering
system and pumped to the sedimentation pond, the outfall of which is subject to the Dischazge Permit effluent
limitations.
Two additional monitoring wells must be installed prior to start of mining to determine the lateral extent of free
product in MW-2 and to act as "sentinel" wells for potential movement of product during dewatering. The
locations of these proposed wells, MW-4 and MW-5, aze shown on the attached Figure 2. These wells must be
screened across the water table as determined during drilling (screened interval from approximately 5 to 20 feet).
Well MW-5 must he added to ~eetion 3,2 of the WMCP and to the.Site Inspection form_contained.ln Appyndix B_
(well MW-4 has already been incorporated into the plan). Please submit replacement pages for insertion into the
WMCP that incorporate these changes.
As a general reminder, all monitoring wells at the site not directly in the area to be excavated for mining,
must be preserved and protected during mining and construction activities to ensure that they are not
covered, damaged, or destroyed. This is especially true for wells GWC-1 (must not be destroyed during
construction of sedimentation pond), wells MW-4 and MW-5 once installed, and WP-3 and MW-2. Wells MW-1
and MW-3 should also be preserved until those areas are mined, to the extent possible.
Please contact me at (303) 692-3362 if you have any questions or require any additional information
Sincerely,
Teresa J.
