SOILS INFORMATION
EXHIBIT I
Virtually the entire permit area and the surrounding area has been long ago disturbed by the
activities of the gilsonite refinery and the installation of associated evaporation ponds. No topsoil
was salvaged from any of these operations although one small pocket of topsoil exists on
approximately 3.0 acres of land in Subarea 1, where the sediment pond will be installed.
It appears that this soil is approximately 2.0 feet deep and is of type "Rf ' or Ravola Very Fine
Sandy Loam. The description of this soil and other surrounding soils in enclosed from the local
NRCS survey although the site has been previously disturbed. See Appendix C for this
information.
The salvaged soil will be used in reclamation of the wetland fringe area around the lake during
reclamation.
The table below lists general soil properties for those soils found in [he general area:
GENERAL SOIL PROPERTIES CHART
MAPPING
UNIT DEPTH RUNOFF TEXTURE INTERNAL
DRAINAGE SALT OR
ALKALI EROSION
HAZARD
Ba Deep Very Slow Sitry Clay Very Slow High SaR None
8c Deep Slow Silty Clay Loam Very Slow Saline None
Gm Deep Medium Fine Sandy Loam Medium High SaR None
Rf Deep Slow Fine Sandy Loam Very Slow Saline Slight
Gitsonite Pit 10/02 30
