Ash Monitorin¢ Well. AMW-2
• In April, 1993, based on approval of its Minor Revision #21, CEC proceeded with
the replacement of Ash Monitoring Well AMW-2, in order to comply the
provisions ofthe Ash Disposal permit. The new well was located approximately
ten (]0) feet East of the original AMW-2 Well. The replacement well was auger
drilled to a depth of fifty-one (51) feet with a bore diameter of 13 5/8", and was
completed using eleven (11) feet of perforated 6 inch PVC casing below thirty-
nine (39) feet of six inch blank PVC casing. A two foot silt trap was installed at the
bottom of the casing. Gravel pack (#4 to #30 size) was placed from 37'0" to TD,
with cement grout filling the annular space from 37'0" to the surface., and a three
foot bentonite seal was placed between the gravel and the grout. A steel
protective casing was installed azound the well to protect it from damage.
Once the replacement well was completed, the original AMW-2 Well was
abandoned. Cement grout was pumped down the annular space, lowering the
pump hose then raising it with the level of the slurry mixture to prevent void
spaces, until the returns reached the surface. The casing was cut offthree feet
below the surface, then capped and backfilled.
All of the work on both the drilling of"replacement AMW-2" well and the
abandonment of the "original AMW-2" well was directly supervised by a geologist
• who both logged the new well and insured correct drilling and completion
procedures were followed. A copy of the new well log can be found on pages 57c
through 57f
•
576
