A submersible pump is now lowered into the well and used to evacuate
• three (3) well volumes (testing has confirmed that the parameters of
temperature, pH and electrical conductivity do "stabilize" within this
interval), calculated using the static water level, total depth of the well and
the casing volume. Once the three volumes have been pumped, a new
static water level measurement is recorded, and the previously described
bailer sampling procedure is repeated, except that this time the seventh
(and if needed, an eighth) bailer volume is used to fill sterile sample
containers provided by the laboratory. These samples are sealed, marked
for identification by the lab, and stored in insulated containers for transport
to the laboratory at the earliest opportunity. The field sample is again
analyzed for temperature, pH and electrical conductivity, and these values
are recorded in the field book which is retained on site.
Immediately following field testing, the lab samples are transported to the
laboratory where they are filtered and prepared for analysis. The following are the
sampling parameters:
Calcium -dissolved (mg/L)
Iron -dissolved (mg/L
Magnesium -dissolved (Mg/L)
Maganese -dissolved (mg/L)
Molybdenum -dissolved (mg/L)
• Sodium -dissolved (mg/L)
Selenium -dissolved (mg/I.)
Lead -dissolved (mg/I.)
Hardness (as CaCo3) (mg/L)
Alkalinity, total (as CaCo3) (mg/L)
Carbonate (as CO3=) (mg/L)
Bicarbonate (asHCO3-) (mgk/L)
pH (pH units)
Specific Conductance (umhos/cm)
Chloride (mg/L)
Hydroxide (as OH-) (mg/L)
Sulfate (as SO4) (mg/L)
TDS (total disolved solids at 180 C) (mg/L)
SAR (sodium absorption ratio)
The laboratory's report of the. parameters listed above is mailed to Coors Energy
Cornpany and is filed at the Keenesburg Mine, Calendar year summaries of this
information, together with copilations of the collected field data, are submitted
annually to the Division as part of the Annual Hydrology and Reclamation Report
(AHR report).
•
57
2/98
