IMRODUCTION TO HYDROCALC HVDRAUUCS HVDROCALC HYDRAULICS MANUAL. PAGE 7
• 1.7.1 PRINTING REPORTS
If you have a printer connected to your computer, you can print out the results of any computations
in this program. Simply press the ®key the computed results are displayed on the screen. Your
printer should begin to print a complete report of the computations, including the name of the
program, the date of the computations, all of the input data, and all of the computed results. The
printed report also contains a reference to Dodson & Associates, Inc., In case questions arise
about the use of the computer program.
Figure 1-4 contains an example of a printed report from a HYDROCALCm Hydraullp program. The
heading of each report includes the date on which the report was printed. The program obtains
this date from your computer's system clock. The date can be set using the DOS DATE command.
Check your DOS manual for more details.
If you have problems in printing, or ityour computer "hangs up" when you try to print, then check
to make sort your printer 1s turned on and is "on line". You should also make sure that your
computer knows howyour printer is connected. Your computer expects the prlnterto be connected
to parallel port 1, unless you put a command in the AL>•I'OEXEC.SAT file to tell it otherwise. Check
the section of your DOS manual concerning the "MODE" command for more details.
1.7.2 DISPLAYING GRAPHS ON THE COMPUTER SCREEN
Several of the computational routines available in the HYDROCALC° Hydraulip programs will display
the tollowmg message after the results are dLsplayed on the computer screen:
cEnter>: Repeat, <R>eport, <S>creen Graph,
rlat Graph, or <Fsc>: End
These computational routines also offer the option of instantly plotting the results on your
computer screen, provided you have the appropriate screen graphics adapter and monitor. The
• screen graph >s displayed by pressing the "S" key.
After inspection of the graph, you can continue by pressing any key. The graph will be cleared
from the screen, and the message shown above wlll be displayed again.
1.7.2.1 Required Hardware for Screen Graphics
The HYDROCALC' Hydrauliq programs can display graphs using the IBM Color Graphics Adaptor
(iBM CGA) or the Hercules Monochrome Graphics Adaptor (MGAI. Many other screen graphics
adapters are compatible with the IBM CGA and/or the Hercules MGA, and thus work well with
the HYDROCALC° Hydrauliq programs. If your computer system has an IBM CGA or compatible
adaptor. the graph will be displayed with a resolution of 640 by 200. The Hercules MGA has a
resolution of 720 by 348. Therefore, the Hemules card provides a better quality graph.
When you choose to display your graph on the screen, the HYDROCALC° Hydraulics programs auto-
matically checks to see which screen graphics adaptor is installed >n your system. If the program
cannot find a screen graphics adaptor, a message to that effect is dLsplayed.
1.7.3 PLOTTING A GRAPH ON THE PRINTER
If your computer has the capability to display graphs on the computer screen, as described in the
previous section, then you may also be able to plot graphs on your dot-matrix printer. Simply
press the ©key when the following message 1s displayed:
cEnter>: Repeat, <R>eport, <9>creen Graph,
rlat Graph, or <Esc>: End
The graph will be drawn on the computer screen, and then the image will be "dumped" to your
dot-matrix printer. Several minutes may be required for the graph to print. After the graph has
been printed, you can continue by presstng any key. The graph will be cleared from the screen,
and the message shown above will be displayed again. Figure 1-5 shows an example graph printed
• on an Epson L.X-80 printer. The graph produced by your printer may vary in size or shape.
0 1989 Dotlson & Associates, Inc.. 5629 FM 1960 West. Suite 314, Houston. Tezas 77069. (713) 440-3787. All Rlpht! Reserved
