MINED LAD1D RECL~ON DIVISION
January 24, 198
Page 2
~•
5. Mr. Schmahl hopes that blastinq will not be nece:
the site; however, at this time, he is not able to ri
that possibility. Mr. Schmahl is not a licensed dyne
and will only employ licensed and bonded ex_nerts in
if that becomes necessary.
sary at
le out
miter
he field,
6. Enclosed herewith are five copies of revised pag s ~} and
5 of the Mininq Plan, showing sediment ponds at both parcels.
There is depicted on these revised plats a cross-sec ion of
the pond to be used.
7. Revised pages 4 and 5 contain greater detail of he dis-
turbed acreage, as requested in this paragraph. Par el A will
have approximately 51 acres of mining with 4 acres m jor
disturbance and stockpile, 3 acres moderate disturba ce for
roadway and sediment ponds, and 3 acres moderate dis rbance
for preparation for seeding and reclamation. Parcel B will
have approximately 8-1/2 acres total involved in mining, with
3.5 acres subject to major disturbance for mining op rations
and stockpile, one acre moderate disturbance for roa ay and
sediment ponds and 3 acres moderate disturbance for reparation
for seedinq and reclamation.
8. As explained to Dlr. O'Connor, the sites are extre ely
rocky. It is not possible to scrape topsoil from any portion
of the location, because of the rocks, boulders and tcrops
that exist. I would be happy to furnish representati e photo-
graphs of the site, if that would be helpful. There 's, of
course, soil and presumably, some topsoil at the site. This
will be removed when the rock is removed and crushed. The
sifted soil will be stockpiled along the side of High ay 191,
as depicted on the plats. The gradient of these stoc Hiles
will be no greater than 3h:ly and will probably be le s than
that. Some stockpiles will likely last more than one growing
season. I am awaiting information from the Soil Cons rvation
Service to complete the balance of this inquiry.
B. Exhibit E - Reclamation Plan
As indicated above, the surface to be mined is extrem ly rocky
terrain. Part of the surface approaches vertical. T e mining
would proceed generally from the road into the site a d remove
the rock elevations above road level and to the base f the
vertical cliffs. This is somewhat of an overstatemen as it
is not possible to mine to the base of the vertical c iffs,
as the cliffs must be supported. A portion of the gr Hite
