Swift, adjacent property
6101 County Road #7
Fort Collins, Colorado, 80528
DATE: June 15, 1999
=..~IVEC1
.,' U ~ 1 i 4999
n~::r2!5 & Geology
The property of the proposed operation of the Timnath
Connell Pit is located directly North of property I own, known as
Swift Ponds. Connell's mining operation could have major adverse
effects on Swift Ponds as well as other properties down stream. By
dewatering an area you disturb the historical and natural flows of
the river system. For example the river system is not only what
you see in the river banks, but the under ground water system that
is called the "Basin".
We have no problem with the mining of the Wietzel property,
but we should not be adversely affected by what cur neighbors do
for their personal profit.
Therefore, I suggest:
- That historical underground flows be maintained.
- That Connell's desilting urea and return flow be constructed just
north of County Road 1k36 so that waters are returned or remain
undiverted to the underground system instead of the above ground
system. In this way the water will flow through the ground, not
on top of the ground.
We request that this letter and information included be part
of the proceedings records and be considered when approving their
application.
Our property has been mined for gravel over the last 25 years.
Our property has also been used as a natural resource area. Up to
5,000 children, handicapped individuals, young adults, seniors
citizens, Colorado State and Northern Colorado Universities, Craig
Hospital, Denver Parks, Outdoor Buddies, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts,
One on one, etc. have used the property for many, many events.
For example, on June 5, 1999, Rev. Leon Kelly of Open Door
Youth Gang Alternatives brought 32 kids up from the Five Points
area of Denver. Most of the youths had never been outside the city
limits of Denver! They caught fish, had a Bar 8 O and had fun in a
wholesome, natural setting.
Please help me protect the water levels so that all of the
above mentioned groups end many more in the future can enjoy an
outdoor, rural, experience.
