B4
Colorado Springs, CO 80906
(719)385-0045
May 26, 1999
Mark Heffner, Ecologist
37 East Colorado Avenue
Denver, CO 80210-3105
Dear Mr. Heffner:
~~
~~
RECEIVED
MAY 2 8 1999
~v~sron of Mine2ls & Geob9Y
Thanl: you for your response to my letter concerning [he proposed Table Mountain
Quarry. The Sierra Club is still in the process of determining whether we wish to retain party
status in these proceedings, or whether we feel that our concerns will be adequately represented
by other parties, so that we can confine ourselves to submitting comtents.
Your letter contains a statement on a matter as to which I meant to inquire, and I assume
that you, rather than the Division of Minerals and Geology are the appropriate party to answer it.
You state that a sign was posted both at the quarry site and at the entrance to the wildlife area
regarding the Fremont County Planning Commission hearing. When and by whom were these
signs posted? The very fact that, as you point out, a number of people came to the May 13th
Informal Conference, but not to the May 11th Planning Commission meeting suggests to me that
your notices were not posted in time [o give effective notice.
I will check with the owners of the Mountaindale Campground [o see what notices they
were referring to, and if I was mistaken regarding their import, I will advise the Division of my
mistake in forthcoming comments.
Sincerely,
~~ ~
James E.
