DA Permit No. CO 2SB OXT 2 005715
Albert R. Frei $ Sons
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF AUTHORIZED 190RK
In accordance with the terms and conditions of this permit, Albert R. Frei $
Sons are authorized by the Secretary of the Army to place fill material in
Clear Creek in conjunction with the widening of a roadway and the realignment of
and existing channel located in Section~34, Township 3 South, Range 72 West,
Clear Creek County, Colorado.
The project consists of widening the existing roadway by placing an estimated
7,000 cubic yards of quarry aggregate and river rock in the creek at two
locations. The project can be segmented in three parts: an east section, a
middle section and a west section. The east and west sections are where the
project requires the placement of the fill material.
Along the east section the width of the water averages 48 feet and the channel
averages 73 feet. The maximum fill width will be 30 feet, which corresponds
with a river channel width of 106 feet. Constriction on the eastern portion of
the project will begin by dozing the existing shoulder area into a flat bench.
The bench will extend into the river channel for the full width needed for the
road surface, shoulder and slope. When this is complete, backfilling in layers
will be started so that highway department compaction standards can be met. As
the bench is being constructed, the creek will not be interrupted but only pushed
over into another section of the existing channel. The quantity of material
needed to backfill this part of the project is approximately 3,800 cubic yards
and will be obtained from the construction site of a mine entrance road near the
project. The back fill material will be broken rock of various sizes.
Along the west section the water averages 46 feet in width and the channel averages
77 feet. The deepest section of the river channel is along the north side; there-
fore, it will be necessary tp deepen the south side of the channel so as i~ut to
raise the elevation of the water. This will be done by widening the channel
with a dozer and drag line. IVhen the deepened section of the channel is complete,
the creek will be diverted into it. The material removed during the widening of
the channel will be used to backfill part of the north side of the existing
channel where the road is being constructed. The remainder of the required
backfill material. will be obtained from the entrance road construction site. It
is anticipated that the total fill needed for this section is approximately 3,200
cubic yards.
ti
