Chuck Roberts in our Denver office received your report
regarding the possible exposure of groundwater on September 22, 1998. We received
the report in our Pueblo office on August 2, 1999.
I work out of our Pueblo office, but I am the Groundwater Commissioner for Water
Districts 10, 11 and 13, which includes Chaffee County. I have visited this gravel pit and
I am convinced that the water in question is tail water nanoff from nearby irrigation. To
be more certain, we should monitor the water over a period of time. This will not be a
problem because my duties regularly take me to the area.
I rarely visit the site during the winter, but I will notify Bruce Smith, the resident Water
Commissioner. I am confident that he will confirm my assessment, but he will be able to
drive by a few times after the irrigation season is over.
If you have any questions, feel free to call me at the above number, extension 122.
Sincerely,
v~~ ~~
Larry Hakes
Cc: Bruce Smith
