4. A three (3) or four (4) inch pipe will be placed at the top of
• the coal seam for bath methane and water drainage from the
abandoned workings.
The procedures for permanent closure of the portal entries are shown on
Figure 3, General Specifications for Permanent Closure of Portal
Entries.
No drill holes are planned at the present time. However, if any are
drilled, each exploration hole, other bore hole, well or other exposed
underground well opening will be cased and sealed. The measures to be
used to plug, case, or manage exploration holes, other bore holes, wells
or other openings within the planned permit area will include filling
the hole or opening with cuttings or inert material until it is level
with the surface. No holes are expected to flow as a result of artesian
conditions; however, if any artesian conditions are encountered, the
holes which penetrate these conditions or two or more aquifers with
• significantly different groundwater quality will be cased or cemented.
Those holes which remain open for use as water supply wells or for use
as groundwater monitoring wells will be completed with casing and
piezometer at a sufficient height above the land surface to prevent
inflow of surface water or entrance of other material into the well. In
addition, they will be fitted with caps to prevent introduction of
foreign objects, other than monitoring and sampling equipment, into the
well. When groundwater monitoring wells are no longer needed or
required for any purpose each well will be sealed in accordance with the
measures described above.
Removal of Surface Structures
Embankments and Impoundments. All embankments and impoundments will be
completely removed and reclaimed after the termination of mining
activities. The sedimentation pond will not be removed until the
• affected area serviced by the pond has been restored, vegetation
2.05-24
requirements met, and the quality of the drainage entering the pond
