• and no impacts due to sediment are anficipated. No chemicals will be used in processing,
and no impacts to water quality due to chemicals will occur.
A Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment C.D.P.H.E. General
Permit certification is not expected to be necessary, since the site shall be developed
to retain storm water runoff on the affected area. All water will percolate into the
ground.
(il Colorado Water Law Compliance
If needed, water used at the operation will be obtained and truck hauled from sources
in the azea that have current Colorado water rights for the use of that water. No injury
to existing Colorado water rights will occur.
(kl Acid/Toxic Materials
No refuse or acidic or toxic materials will be exposed by the operation. No
overburden or other waste products will be developed. Chopper fines will be sold
and/or used in final reclamation of the pit floor. None of the mined products aze
anticipated to cause unsightliness or to pollute the drainage system.
(1 Hvdrolopac Balance
No surface watercourses are involved at the excavation and processing sites since
• the entire quarry is near the top of a gentle ridge on fairly level ground.
Incumbent rainfall and snowmelt shall be diverted to a low portion of the quarry
and/or to a portion of the worked-out quarry floor for retention and/or percolation.
No changes in the hydrologic balance aze anticipated; no off-site damage due to
changes in the hydrologic balance is anticipated. Processing azea reclamation will
result in stable, non-eroding rangeland, consistent with the proposed future land use.
Pit high walls are not anticipated to be a hazazd to livestock or humans.
(ml On-Site Processing
On-site processing will consist of drilling, cutting, chopping, and stockpiling of mined
limestone. Chopping equipment will be portable, will be moved about the quarry
floor as quarrying progresses, and removed between periods of processing. No
chemicals will be used in the process. Water will not be needed for dust control.
(n Primary and Secondary Commodities
The commodity to be extracted is a horizontal limestone bed of varying thickness up
to 15 feet thick and which outcrops on the site. Much of the limestone will be cut
to specific sizes by a rock chopper. Oversize rock that will not fit into the rock chopper
will be segregated, sorted, and stockpiled, to be sold in various dimensions for various
uses. Rock products aze to be sold offsite on the open market (including Las
Animas County) for building rock, retaining walls, general landscaping, and for
decorative rock products.
• (ol Incidental Products
