Hr. Jack Vaeth • .
October G, 1980
Page Two
EXHIBIT L
1. The outlines of tiie pits on the map should reflect the acreages to be disturbed
as closely as practical. if some of the maps given need to be enlarged to make
this practical, please do ao.
2. Any haul roads constructed to serve the gravel pit alone (not pro-existing) should
be considered as part of tho pit acreages and shown as such. Please clarify this
situation for these pits.
3. Rather than tryiny to show all gravel stockpile locations on the maps, please
describe the typical placement of gravel stockpiles in pit areas.
EXHIBIT D.
1. Wildlife: I Intend to conmunicato with Jack Vaylringer of the Colorado Division
of Hildlifo concerning your statement that the wildlife statement enclosed Is
applicable to all the E1 Paso County gravel pits In the eastern part of the
county. I w111 express to him the similar Hato-re of these opeYationa. If he
agrees with this statement, I will accept It. 1 will eiso ask him If the same
can bo said for the Deilacroee pit which is to a very different part of E1 Paso
County. You may also wish to contact lilm In this rnatter.
'~. Vegetation: Some data on existing vegetation for Lice Ei Paso County pits should
be provided to the Division. Perhaps the SoTI ConServeilon Service can be contacted
to provide a general statement concerning the existing vegetation, tf they are
given the pit locations.
~ 3. Solis: a. The Hilson and Sokol pits do not seem to be Included cn your listing
of pits as organized into soli types. F.'hicli associations do they fell under
b. The Deilacroee pit seems to be within soil region 2, the Kettle-Pring--Peyton
association rather than the Truckton-Blakeland-Bresser association ss on your
list. Into which of the two generals zones rrould this pit then flt7
EXiIIDIT E
1. Are the seeding rates as given for the various seed mixes drilled rates?
2. Is the general reseeding plan to be the ono given as a general example In
Exhibit 67 In general, the methodology given therein Is acceptable.
3. Although the final reclamation scopes are to he fairly gentle (4:1), soma
mulching would seem to be necessary, especially (n a generally grid or semi-
arid environment. A minimum of a ,000 lbs. per epcre would be a good rate.
Ir. A legume should be incorporated Into all of the various seeding mixes to help
Q•~o~ de long tens nitrogen. An example would be Blydsfoot Trefoil at 0.5 ib.
PLS/acre (drilled). If you contact the SCS concerning existing vogetatlon, they
may ~rlsh to recor:mrend an appropriate legume.
EXHIBIT F.
The status of the zoning of the Dellacroce pit should be clarified In wri~ing by
the 4and Use Department.
l have tr[at to 6e comprehensive In my review of these permits. 1 feel chat we can
Bettie the various outstanding questions on the pits and be ready for tho October
meeting.
