Cottony
Atlanta, GA 30348-5603 Acting Division Director
Re: Expiration of the Extension of the Reclamation Period, Coaldale Quarry, M-1977-247
Deaz Mr. Brooks:
In 1997, Georgia-Pacific Corp (G-P) requested an extension of the five-yeaz reclamation period
at the September, 1997 Mined Land Reclamation Board heazing. The Boazd granted an
extension, as allowed under C.R.S. 34-32.5-116(4)(q)(I), of the reclamation period to September
24, 2002. The expiration date is fast approaching. Will all the required reclamation be completed
by the September 24, 2002 date? If not, G-P must submit another request to the Boazd for an
extension of the five-yeaz reclamation period. The request needs to be submitted and presented to
the Board prior to September 24, 2002. This yeaz, the Boazd meets on the 18t1i and 19 of
September so the request should be submitted to this Office prior [o August 26, 2002 in order
that the Board is allowed to consider the item on the 18~' or 19~' (which would meet the
September 24, 2002 deadline).
Failure to submit the extension request, or to complete reclamation by September 24, 2002,
could result in the issuance of a Reason to Believe (that a possible violation exists).
The site will need to be inspected prior to the Boazd heazing. Since I plan to be in Salida August
27, 2002 I should be able to look at the site on the 26a' or the 28a'.
If you have any questions, please give me a call at 303-866-4060.
Sincerely,
James Dillie
Environmental Protection Specialist
