State Rea.
• monitored at two sites: 17-W and 19-W. Both wells are located
~'a~; errt of mini.rrg.
Well 17-W is located near the Wadge ~otn'idme^*, and water samples
collected at this site have a NaCaMJ-S04 water type. ~e Wadge dal
aquifer at this site receives L'echaxge fxYau the Wadge T~TM~*+t
(which receives a;~-hare fx+aa the spoils aquifer) arri the Little
GYas.~y Creek alluviino. 29S omxerrtrations at well 17-W have been
increasing since 1980, which is to be expected omisiderimg the
sources of rec3~arge far the Wadge Coal aquifer in this area.
Well 19-W is located south of the Wadge T+~~~++~*+t. Wadge Coal
a? ~; fen water quality at this site is quite different than seen at
well 17-W; the water type is Na-HC03, aryl 29S levels are
armrrnr;~++ately one-third of those ~~TM~ at 17~d and Show a very
slight decreasing trend. It should be noted that the water quality
• obseLVed at 19-W is quite similar to the water quality ~~~+**~ at
other Wadge Coal monitoring wells that were later destroyed by
mining.
Wolf Creek Overbuxrien/Wadge Underburden Aotrifer. 2Y>x'ee wells
presently monitor water quality ,in the Wolf Creek Overburtien/Wadge
Underbunien aquifer: 7-WCO, SPl-U, and S11-U.
Well 7~TCU is located downdip frcan the Wolf Creek pit area, arri water
samples froio this site are distinctly different than those from wells
8P1-U and S11-U. A CaMg-S04 water type is present at 7-WOD. 29.5
values at 7-WCO have declined since 1987 when a peak 29S level of
1600 mg/1 was a~easlsed; the 1991 water year average 2DS concentration
was 1233 log/l.
Water quality at wells 8P1-U aryl Sll-U are quite similar. Both wells
show a Na-HCD3 water type; 29S concentrations are stable and range
• between 600 to 700 mg/1.
Wolf Creek Coal Awifer.
