Craig Pit (File M-99-01 I) Adequacy review of I I I permit application
Dear Mr. Roberts:
The Division has completed a review of the permit application for [he Craig Pi[ and has identiFied the
following adequacy issues:
PAGE I: The location indicated on Page I of the application places the pit in the SW N W of
Section 27 but Exhibit A and [he Exhibit E maps indicate the location to be in the NW SW of Section 27.
Please confirm the location of the pit as being in the NW SW of Section 27.
EXH1B[T C, Section (e): You have stated that the Floor elevation is below known water elevation
but that the excavation will not require any type of dewatering. This Is confusing. [f the floor of the pit i=
below water level, then, without dewatering, the mining will probably be carried on in a wet plt.
Please indicate if the minin__ is to be carried on in a wet pit and if the well applicat~en being made
to the State Engineer'=_ Office is the result of the anticipated exposure of ground water by the mining.
EXHIBIT C, Section (h): You have specified the source of the water to be used on site but have
not provided an estimate of the amount to be used.
Please provide an estimate of the amount of water [o be used in conjunction with the operation.
EXHIBIT C, Section (i): You have indicated storm water will be retained in the "dredging area".
This again suggests that the mining will be done in a wet pit and appears to conflict with your statement
that the excavation of material will be by bulldozer or front-end loader.
Please be clearer in regard to whether the mining will be in a wet pit or not and if there is to be
dredging as part of the mining operation. If there is to be a wet pit such that storm water will be retained on
site, then you should provide an Exhibit E mine plan map that shows the limits and depth ofsuch apit-
Exhibit C, Section (j): The Division understands that an application has been made for a gravel pit
well permit. TI)e Division, however, is unsure iFthis application is the result of the anticipated exposure of
ground water in a wet pit or if the well is' to be a conventional bore hole.
Please indicate if the well permit is for a conventional bore hole or the result of anticipated
exposure ofground water bythe minim operation.
iii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
999
STATE OF COLORADO
