• 1.0 <br />Energy Fuels Corporation is planning to expand its coal strip <br />mine operations in Routt County, Colorado to produce, during a five year <br />period, approximately 22 million tons of high BTU, low sulfur bituminous <br />coal (Plate 1). The majority of the coal produced will be used by <br />Public Service Company of Colorado for electrical power generation in <br />their coal-fuel facilities for use by residences in Denver, Colorado. <br />Presently, part of the company land holdings is owned by <br />Energy Fuels Corporation, leased from private owners, leased from the <br />federal and state governments and under current applications for federal <br />and state coal leases. To complete the proposed expansion program, <br />approval is needed for lands under coal lease applications C20900 <br />and C16284 and portions of Sections 18, 19 an3 30 R86W T4N, Section 27, <br />28 and 34 R86W TSN, Section 36 R87W TSN, Section 7 RSSW TSN, Section <br />2 and 3 R86W TSN and Sections 34 and 35 R86W T6N (Plate 1). <br />This proposed expansion would provide coal to complete a <br />five-year mining plan, from 1975 to 1979. Plate 1 shows the general <br />location of the proposed project site. <br />The purpose of this report is to provide a description of the <br />existing environmental conditions of the proposed project site that can <br />be used by the BL`S Environmental Team in preparation of their regional <br />impact statement. <br />Jr-l:i`CS •~ tier oRE <br />
