• Skylick Series
The Skylick series consists of deep, well-drained soils that formed
in mixed material derived primarily from sandstone. Skylick soils
are on mountain sideslopes and benches and have slopes of 3 to 65
percent. The average annual precipitation is 20 to 25 inches, the
average annual air temperature is 37 to 40 degrees F., and the
frost-free season is 40 to 65 days. Elevations are 7000 to 8500 feet.
Skylick soils are similar to Routt soils and are mapped near Coutis,
Winevada, and Splitro soils. Routt soils have more than 35 percent
clay in the control section, and Coutis soils have less than 18
percent clay in the control section. Winevada and Splitro soils have
hard sandstone at depths less than 40 inches.
Typical pedon of Skylick loam, 3 to 25 percent slopes, is located
• about 2 miles west and 4 miles south of Milner, 1600 feet west and
1000 feet south of the northeast corner of section 33, T. 6 N., R. 86 W.
01-1 to 0 inches; partially decomposed leaves and fibrous roots.
All - 0 to 5 inches; dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) loam, very dark
grayish brown (lOYR 3/2) moist; moderate fine granular structure;
soft, very friable, slightly sticky, slightly plastic; neutral; gradual
smooth boundary.
A12 - 5 to 10 inches; dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) loam, very dark
grayish brown (lOYR 3/2) moist; weak medium prismatic parting to weak
medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, slightly
sticky, slightly plastic; neutral; gradual smooth boundary.
A13 - 10 to 24 inches; dark grayish brown (lOYR 4/2) loam, very dark
grayish brown (lOYR 3/2) moist; weak medium prismatic parting to
weak medium subangular blocky structure; hard, friable, slightly
•
-77-
