The work reported herein <br />was air~leted in order to meet the requirements of Executive Order 11593 <br />and other applicable Historic Preservation laws. <br />DEVELOPER: <br />Colorado 4aestmoreland, Paonia, Colorado. <br />TYPE OF UNDERTAKING: <br />Subsurface mine expansion with some potential for surface subsidence. <br />FIIID4~RK LpCATION: <br />T13S, R91W, SF3;,.~iTF;, and NE;, SF;, <br />Delta County <br />Montrose Bibt District, <br />Sec. 18; and SN; ±5~, NL•F;, Sec. 17. <br />Unoorryaahgre Resource Area. <br />ENVII20t`T4Nr: <br />Tne Farmers Mine Lase Tract Lies on the south slope of Grand h~sa <br />between Stevens Gulch and Terror Creek. The area is characterized by <br />steep slopes and N-S trending ridges. Fully 70$ of the area slopes in <br />excess of 20$ and is covered with dense Gambles oak that is nearly <br />impossible to move through. Sno„aoerry, Indian rice grass, cactus, and <br />other shrubs and grasses are present. No permanent water is present in <br />the tract area. The nearest source of permanent water appears to be <br />Terror Creek about ~ mile east. <br />PR~'IECD CHECK: <br />A prefield check was made with Doug Scott, Nbntrose BLM District <br />Archaeologist on July 23, 1982. <br />FII,E SFARCI-I• <br />A check of the records at the office of Doug Scott revealed teat no <br />cultural resources on National Register Properties were kno~+m to exist <br />in the study tract. Several surveys in adjacent areas revealed that <br />few, if any, cultural resources could be expected in the study area.
