• course of the survey. An area involving a 100 foot radius from the
staked drill hole was surveyed for each location. Access roads were
surveyed fora 30 meter (98'•) right-of-way. Acreage surveyed for the
project involved .72 acres for each drill hole, or 7.9 acres for
eleven drill holes. In addition, .6 miles (7.1 acres) of access road
were surveyed for drill site 65, and .1 miles (1.2 acres) of access
road were surveyed for drill site 63. Total acreage surveyed for the
project was 16.2 acres.
The inventory was conducted by a series of back-and-forth parallel
transects over the impact area. Ground visibility was limited in areas
of dense oak brush, but was satisfactory in the more open grassy areas.
Access to all drill sites, with the exception of .the aforementioned
access roads was by existing jeep roads.
RESULTS
No prehistoric or historic cultural resources were encountered within
the impact areas of the proposed drill sites and access roads. Cultural
resource clearance is therefore recommended. Should any subsurface
• archaeological material be encountered during ground-disturbing activities,
Colorado Llestmoreland should cease work immediately and contact the
BLM District Office in Montrose.
•
