Project Description: Size: <br />Underground mine expansion with possible surface subsidence. Orchard Valley Mine. <br />Topography: South slope of Grand Mesa. North Fork of the Gunnison River. Extreme <br />local relief in places.Generally tJ-S trending ridges and drainages. <br />Vegetation: Mostly juniper with an occasional pinyon. Most of [he area is domina[~=' <br />by snowberry and very dense Gamble's oak. Variety of other shrubs and grass. <br />Ground visibility poor due to vegetation. <br />4. Examination Procedure: Are-tied check made on 7/23/82. Negative file search. <br />Pedestrian survey of immediate drainage area only using two archaeologist <br />searching independent areas. Search concentrated in flat areas. Areas with slopes <br />greater than 20$ excluded from inspection. Actual acreage checked waT, about 10 aci <br />5. Findings:Very few areas.sufible for occupation were observed. No cultural resource= <br />were discovered. The potential for resources in unsurveyed area is negligible. <br />6. •R ecommendations: <br />Clearance should be granted.
