1 Draft: March 31, 1999
Page 9
2.3 Parachute Site
' American Soda wil l use one monitoring well to monitor groundwater quality and water levels
at the Pazachute processing site. The monitoring well will be completed at the base of the Alluvial
Aquifer to monitor for potential leakage from this pond. The monitoring well will be situated
down-gradient of the proposed pond, between the pond and Parachute Creek. The monitoring
' protocol for the Pazachute site is identical to the Yankee Gulch Lease site.
3.0 GROUNDWATER MONITORING
' Groundwater levels will be measured in all available monitoring wells. Groundwater
samples will be collected for analysis. The sampling frequencies, sampling methods, and
' groundwater pazameters aze presented in this section. The sampling frequencies for the baseline
monitoring period and commercial operations are also detailed in this section.
' The groundwater monitoring wells will be monitored on a once per month basis during the
baseline monitoring period. During these monitoring events, the elevation ofthe groundwater level
' will be measured and the well will be sampled for Water Quality list 1 (WQ1) pazameters listed in
Table 2. Water level measurements will be taken in accordance with procedures detailed in
' Appendix B. Once per quarter, the water quality parameters list will include the expanded set of
parameters listed in Water Quality list 2 (WQ2), included as Table 3. The water quality samples will
' be collected in accordance with the procedures detailed in Appendix C.
3.1 Water Level Mouitoring
' Water levels will be measured monthly for all monitoring well completions except those
completed at the Dissolution Surface. Water levels at monitoring wells completed at the Dissolution
' Surface will be monitored by automated data recording equipment and evaluated monthly. The
monitoring schedule is identical for the baseline data collection period and during commercial
' mining operations. Water level monitoring will be conducted in accordance with procedures detailed
in Appendix B.
1

1
Agapito Associates, [nc.
