The mine site and general area is used by a large variety of wildlife. No aquatic habitat occurs within the proposed permit area itself. There are no threatened rare or endangered animal species in the surface disturbed area. The applicant has consulted with the Colorado Division of Wildlife with respect to the Dorchester No. 1 Mine. This is documented on page 163 of the permit application. Based upon the consultation, it has been determined that there are no major wildlife concerns for this operation. Same displacement of wildlife may occur, but should not reduce population members. The operation is in compliance with the requirements of these section. XIII. Prime Farmland - Rules 2.04.12, 2.06.6, and 4.25 Information on the prime farmlands can be found in Volume II, Tab. 9, pages 62 through 70 of the permit application. Based on the information submitted by the applicant and information from the Soil Conservation Service, the Division has made a negative determination on the existence of prime farmlands within the proposed permit area. XIV. Operations Description, Mine Faciliti The general description of the mining operations and facilities for this permit term has been reviewed by the Division for compliance with the Regulations. This information may be found on pages 166-181, Volume I of the permit application and in Section 2.05.3 of the Second Adequacy Response. The applicant intends to mine coal at a maximum production rate of 800,000 tons per year utilizing room and pillar methods. Five entries were driven into the Red Arrow Seam. At 2,800 feet in depth, ramps were driven up and into the Dirty Jack O'Lantern Seam, which lies approximately 30 feet above the Red Arrow Seam. Dorchester is equipped with four continuous miners which are currently being used far the advance and pillaring operations. Coal from the mine is transported to the main stockpile via conveyor. Fran here, the coal is crushed in a rotary breaker and rejects are separated from the coal utilizing a heavy media wash plant. Llean coal is stockpiled and transported to the load-out near Florence. Reject material is thickened with Nalco chemicals 8872, 8874 and 8852 and passed through a belt press for dewatering. The dewatered coal processing waste is then trucked to the coal processing waste pile.
