• -19- <br />=ip~lation No. 5 <br />THE OPERATOR SHALL MONITOR THE WATER LEVELS MONTHLY IN THE THOMPSON WELL <br />WATER SOURCE BEGINNING 120 GAYS PRIOR TO PILLARING OR SUBSIDING WITHIN <br />1500 FEET OF THE THOMPSON WELL. THE OPERATOR MAY EITHER OBTAIN 7HE USE <br />OF THE THOMPSON WELL FOR MONITORING OR DRILL AN ADDITIONAL WELL <br />COMPLETED IN THE SAME GEOLOGIC UNIT. <br />A series of mine dewatering welts have been installed to dewater old <br />underground workings overlying the Dorchester No.l Mine. The dewatering <br />system was used to reduce the potential for mine inflows induced by the <br />overlying workings. The operator does not have any immediate plans to dewater <br />any additional workings. However, it is possible that additional workings <br />above the mine could be encountered that would need to be dewatered. Such <br />dewatering would need to be approved by the Division prior to implementation <br />and meet applicable State and Federal water quality standards. <br />Mining will create a drawdown of the piezometric surface in and around the <br />mine. Following the cessation of mining, the underground workings will be <br />filled with water and the piezametric surface should recover toward its <br />original position. Historical records for the area confirm that mines at the <br />same depth as the Dorchester No.l Mine do fill with water after the mines are <br />abandoned. To assess the current and future effects of mining on the <br />• hydrologic balance, the Division proposes the following two stipulations to <br />the permit: <br />Stipulation No. 6 <br />THE APPLICANT WILL SUBMIT TO THE DIVISION AN ANNUAL REPORT OF INFLOWS, <br />DISCHARGES AND CONSUMPTION OF WATER WITHIN THE MINE. THIS REPORT IS TO <br />INCLUDE A MINE WORKINGS MAP SHOWING THE LOCATION AND QUANTITY OF <br />INFLOWS; A TABLE KEYED TO 7HE MINE MAP WHICH SHALL CONTAIN THE SOURCE <br />(i.e., FAULT, FRACTURES, ETC.), QUANTITY, DURATION AND QUALITY (i.e., <br />pH, ELECTRO-CONDUCTIYITY AND TEMPERATURE) OF ALL INFLOWS; A TABLE <br />CONTAINING RECORDS OF WATER DISCHARGED FROM THE MINE, CONSUMED IN THE <br />MINE AND IMPORTED fOR USE WITHIN THE MINE; AND A DISCUSSION OF WATER <br />BALANCE WITHIN THE MINE. THE INFLOW STUDY IS TO BE DONE DURING THE <br />SPRING OF EACH TEAR WITH THE REPORT SUBMITTED BY JULY 1. <br />Stipulation No. 7 <br />• THE APPLICANT SHALL SUBMIT A HYDROLOGIC MONITORING REPORT FOR THE <br />DORCHESTER N0. 1 MINE. THE MONITORING REPORT SHALL INCLUDE A SUMMARY AND <br />ANALYSIS OF DATA COLLECTED TO DATE, INCLUDING: 1)WATER USED IN THE <br />MINING OPERATION, 2) MINE WATER DISCHARGES TO RECEIVING STREAMS <br />SNDY),74)ASTREAMLFLOi)iS ANDMQUALITYERANOFS)WIMPACTSATOMTHE QUALITY AND <br />QUANTITY OF BEDROCK AQUIFERS. THE MONITORING REPORT SHOULD UPDATE THE <br />STATEMENT OF PROBABLE HYDROLOGIC CONSEQUENCES AND INCLUDE A DESCRIPTION <br />• OF MITIGATIVE MEASURES TAKEN TO MINIMIZE DISTURBANCE TO THE PREVAILING <br />HYDROLOGIC BALANCE AND A PLAN FOR MODIFYING THE MONITORING PLAN IF <br />NEEDED. THE MONITORING REPORT SHALL BE ADEQUATE TO PLAN FOR MODIFICATION <br />OF SURFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING ACTIVITIES, IF NECESSARY, TO MINIMIZE <br />DISTURBANCE TO THE PREVAILING HYDROLOGIC BALANCE. THE REPORT IS DUE <br />AUGUST 1, 1985. <br />
