April 1992 MR-19 Pneumatic Coal Drying Installation • Pape ~ 4
• INSTALL CYCLONE DRYER
Current plans call for installation of the pneumatic ryclone dryer within a protettive enclosure
at the top of the rurge bin. The ryclone will receive coal from the pneumatic transfer pipeline,
separate surface moisture from the coal by the combined effetts of centrifugal force and air
drying, and discharge the dried coal to [he surge bin. The ryclone and associated blower unit
will connett to the existing elettrial power source at the truck sale.
The cyclone has been designed and tested to remove all coal particles grater than 1 micron from
the feed-stream. Moisture removed from the coal will discharge from the ryclone u water vapor
along with negligible amounts of any -1 micron coal which may be in the feed-stream. Given
that any discharge of -1 micron coal will be negligible and [his material will be discharged along
with water vapor, discharge should not result in any signifiant fugitive dust emissions and no
modifiation of EFCPs existing air quali[y permits should be required.
ERECT PNEUMATIC PIPELINE, WALKWAY AND SUPPORT STRUCTURES
Coal will be transported co the ryclone dryer and hopper through an 8-inch pneumatic pipeline
approximately 210 feet long. The pipeline will be arried by an integrated
truss/walkway/pipeline strutturewhich will be pre-fabriated in four sections. The truss sections
will be ruppotted by three 24 inch, concrete filled steel columns. The integrated
truss/walkway/pipeline structure will attach to and be supported at either end by the hopper
structure and the eais[ing truck tunnel.
• INSTALL MODULAR FEEDER AND PUMP SYSTEMS
The heart of the coal transport rystem will be a pneumatic accelerator/dryer pump which will
provide sufficient air volume to arty approximately 150 [ons of coal per hour through [he
pipeline system. As the coal and transport air-stream move [hrough [he pipeline, some surface
moisture will be lost through bo[h mechanial attion and air drying, Coal will be drawn from
the clean coal stockpile through one of the existing draw points in the truck tunnel and will be
fed to the pneumatic pump by a vibratory feeder. The feeder, main pneumatic pump, back-up
pump and related mntrol power and control rystems will wnsist of modulaz components
mounted on a flatbed trailer u illustrated by Figure 19-2, Pneumatic Coal Drying System -
Trailer Detail. Elettrial power will be provided by a standard shielded able connected to the
existing power source. The [oiler an be loafed under any of the draw points within the
existing truck tunnel and an be moved if necessary for maintenance or, in the unlikely event
of extended breakdown, to allow direct truck loading operations to proceed.
SYSTEM OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
The system is not expected to operate continuously. Operation will be governed by both
anticipated coal demand and available storage apacity in the surge bin.
All system components will be periodially inspected for excessive weaz and to corm that
they are operating properly. Mechanial wmponents such u motors and pumps will be
• inspected and maintained on a regular preventative maintenance schedule to provide required
availabilities. Any signifiant coal spillage at either the feed or discharge points will be deaned-
up, with spilled material being returned to the coal stockpile.
ACZ Inc. • P.O.
