Doc Date:12/11/2001 III IIIIIII+IIIII III
ass
' ~~4.8.6 Small Area Exemptions
i
Seven small area exemptions from constructing sediment dams have been granted to Trapper Mine by
the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division during the mine's life and are presented in this section.
Currently, no active small area exemptions (SAE) exist. Drainage from all haulroads passes through
sedimentation ponds prior to discharge from the permit area.
SAE 1 was an ammonium nitrate storage area (less than one acre in size) which is located in Buzzard
drainage below the settling ponds. This SAE was eliminated with Far East Buzzard pond wnstruction.
SAE 2 was removed from Trapper Mining's control as a result of the 1985 transfer of a portion of the D Pit
bonded area to Empire Energy.
SAE 3 consisted of the remnants of an old scoria stockpile. Much of the pile has been cleaned up and all
of the area associated with this former SAE drains into Elk sediment pond #1.
SAE 4 consisted of a topsoil stockpile which has been seeded to a perennial seed mix. The drainage
from this former area flows into the West Buzzard sedimentation pond system.
SAE 5 was a small topsoil stockpile (approximately 1.5 ac) constructed in West Pyeatt drainage, upstream
from the haul road crossing. This SAE was eliminated with West Pyeatt pond construction.
• SAE 6 was an electrical substation (< 1 acre) constructed in West Pyeatt drainage, upstream from the
haulroad crossing. This SAE was eliminated with West Pyeatt pond construction.
SAE 7 was issued in 1996 for topsoil stockpile D-77-1 by Minor Revision No. 147. SAE 7 was eliminated
by Minor Revision No. 180 which referenced the previously approved SL-2 Phase II Bond Release
Application (approved January 30, 2000) as the demonstration required by the Division showing that the
SAE 7 sediment control structures were no longer required to treat runoff from this area.
a~~ to®~' ~ ~,~ ~7 ~ 3 2~0~

4-248
APPrwed'----'
