• Currently, no major undisturbed drainage exists within the permH bountlary. The Pyeatt drainage was
disturbed during the 1988-1992 permit term and the Flume Gulch drainage was impacted with pond
construction in Grouse, Sage and Oak Gulches tluring the 1993.1997 pernil term. Site S-1 will continue
to be used to gather baseline Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and Settleable Solids (SS) data over the
nerd several years wRhin the main Flume Gulch drainage. The addil'wnal baseline data collection will
ensure sampling represents the full range of baseline values. For example, the surface water monitoring
in No-Name (S-5) Gulch observed higher TSS values prior to mining disturbance in this drainage than
during mining activity (1981-present). Also, no other baseline SS data exists for any of the drainages to
be affected by mining.
Several changes have occured to the surface water mon8oring program over the years. For instance,
acidity was a parameter in our original monitoring scheme, but was determined not to be a meaningful
parameter due to the normally alkaline pH values of the surface water. Acidity was therefore dropped
from List A because it did not yield useful monitoring information.
The frequency of sampling at each site (Table 4.8.11) has been revised to be compatible with Trapper's
NPDES permit, C-0032115. The frequency of monitoring of the Flume site was changed from quarterly
to semFannually. This frequency has enabled definition of non-seasonal changes with time.
In accordance with TR-48 "1989 Annual Report" approval, the following surface water sampling changes
• became effective:
1) Vanadium was dropped as a sample parameter in the A-1 list.
2) Radium 226 sampling was dropped from the A-1 list.
3) Trapper agreed to analyze surface water parameters for "Dissolved" and "Total Recoverable" as
speed in permit Table 4.8-12.
By March 15 each year, an annual report will be provided to the Division concerning the results of the
surface water sampling at Trapper for the previous year. The report will inGude the NPDES discharge
sites and data from Flume drainage. Appendix W will be updated to contain each annual report.
•
4-241a _ PQ-~ ___.._
::.~~~ 1 s'i99a-
