SHELTON, Dlnetor
June 6, 1984
Mr. Ed McCrary
Texas Mining & Exploration, Co.
Bax 1528
Buena Vista, Colorado 81211
Re: Gloria Z Mine - File No. M-84-094
Dear Mr. McCrary:
The Division has reviewed the above cited application for adequacy. We have
the following questions, comments, and requests which are intended to help
provide for a satisfactory application for presentation before the MLRB.
Responses should be returned by no later than June 18, 1984 if at all possible.
1. The maximum depth to be mined, and depth (from the surface) to ground
water should be given.
2. The method and location of dewatering should be indicated. The operator
is advised that dewatering will probably require a discharge permit. We
recommend that you contact Bob Shukle at the State Health Department, Water
Quality Control Division (320-8333) for assistance.
3. The location and method of tailings disposal should be given. The plan
should provide details on any impoundment structures.
4. The staff does not feel that a 50' buffer between the river is adequate
to meet the requirements or Rule 6.2. The Division recommends that an
absolute minimum of 100', undisturbed, be maintained between the high water
line of the South Platte River and any disturbance. Furthermore, this buffer
should be staked to delineate boundaries.
5. The application should commit to a plan to backfill concurrent with
mining in order to keep reclamation current and reduce ultimate material
handling burdens.
6. In order to reduce sediment contributions to the stream, the application
should include a plan to divert/capture runoff peripheral to and downgradient
from operations.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
