Radiation Protection <br />111 Standard Operating Procedure <br /> TITLEi Alpha Contamination Surveys <br />V',i:::Jtr <br />1.0 Purpose <br /> The purpose of this procedure is to delineate methodology for <br /> conducting alpha contamination surveys. <br /> <br />2.0 Scope <br /> The scope of this procedure shall include all routine and special <br /> alpha surveys <br />3.0 Eouipment ~ <br /> 3.1 A portable rate meter equipped with an alpha scintillation <br /> detector (Eberline Instrument Corp. Model PRM-6/AC-3 <br /> combination, or equivalent). <br /> 3.2 Absorbent paper towels (Scott "C" fold, or equivalent). <br /> 3.3 An alpha check or calibration source (Eberline Instrument <br /> Corp. Model DNS-4, or equivalent). <br /> 3.4 Miscellaneous secondary supplies (paper, pen, plastic bags, <br /> etc.), as may be needed. <br />4.0 Procedure <br /> 4.1 Turn the rate meter's range selector switch to "X1", and <br /> allow the instrument to "warm up" for at least 5 minutes. <br /> 4.2 Turn the range selector switch to "BATT" and assure that <br /> the meter needle is in the "BATT OK" range. <br /> i <br />Ccpy No Date Issued Prepared By Page C. <br />
