IX. Contamination Control. - Personnel <br />1. Policy <br />Limiting skin and clothing contamination to ac- <br />ceptable levels is considered a prime feature of <br />good employee hygiene. Therefore, all reasonable <br />effort will be made to limit personal radioactive <br />materials contamination to the lowest extent practi- <br />cable. <br />2. Program <br />Emphasis on proper work and good hygiene habits <br />will form the basis for personal contamination con- <br />trol. Sinks and showers will be made available in <br />the change room, and employees will be instructed to <br />wash their hands and face, or any other portion of <br />their body or clothing suspected of being contaminated, <br />prior to eating and/or leaving the site. <br />A count rate meter equipped with an alpha scintil- <br />lation probe will be made available to employees <br />(see Table - 3 for technical specifications). This <br />instrument will be set to alarm at a count rate <br />equivalent to 1,000 dpm/100 cm2. Personnel will be <br />instructed to thoroughly wash areas that cause the <br />instrument to alarm, to resurvey the area in question <br />after washing, and to notify the Radiation Protection <br />Officer in the event that decontamination efforts <br />are unsuccessful. <br />3. Records and Audits <br />The Radiation Protection Officer will document any <br />case wherein he is required to supervise or assist <br />i.n decontamination efforts.
