KIRK H. FOX
Kirk Fox, Board Chairman and President of Gates & Fox,
is also the firm's most active member -- and inter-
nationally recognized for his personal acumen, and for
trie management and reputation of Gates & Fox.
Kirk sometimes provides hands-on direction of projects;
a representative indication of his involvement in
projects was his intense personal direction of initial
operations, engineering, and development of management
plans and objectives for the C-JD-5 uranium mine in
Colorado. He personally managed every aspect of the
mine until he got it going.
Kirk i.s, in many ways, a pioneer in his industry: He
was among the very first in this country to adapt portions
of the new Austrian method by using Shotcrete as primary
support underground. He may have been the first in this
country to use Rockbolts in tunnel construction.
He is constantly alert to new techniques, materials, or
products to improve and refine underground operations.
He is a seeker of a "Better Way".
His enthusiasm and creativity are evidenced in his staff:
He has surrounded himself with many of the best specialists
in a variety of fields, and encourages them to provide
each other with insight and expertise. He delegates
authority and responsibility well and usually manages
with a light touch. He stays informed however, and when
the need arises, he takes the helm.
While Kirk i.s careful to develop a team spirit among the
many staff of Gates & Fox, the firm's phenomenal success,
and international recognition, must be ascribed largely
to his influence and direction. As its founder, he has
guided its course for more than three decades -- a course
that has not faltered.
Kirk has his degree in Mining from the Polytechnic College
of Oakland; he and his wife, Mary, have seven children.
