2.06.8 ALLWIAL VALLEY FLOORS

The permit area is adjacent to Hay Gulch, which is an
Alluvial Valley Floor. This valley drains the adjacent area, but
does not hold a stream. It does contain irrigation ditch and sys-
tem, which is operated in summer months, when irrigation water is
available. However, irrigation in this area is from the La Plata
River, which is over-appropriated in su¢;mer months, and irrigation
water is not always available.
No significant effect on this Alluvial Valley Floor or
waters that supply Alluvial Valley Floors are expected because no
ground water has historically been encountered in mining, and sur-
face water from the disturbed area will be contained within the
disturbed area. The applicant proposes to engage the services of
Fred P1. Johnson, Consulting Geologist, of Durango, Colorado to
study and report of possible effects of mining operations upon
Hay Gulch.

-49-
