These are the items we feel need to be
addressed concerning Halderson & Sons. Inc proposed mining operation
File No. M-20513-037
That the DMG require Halderson and Sons, Inc., to provide evidence that their
proposed project will ~ impact the historic operation of existing~vater ria_hts. such as
irrigation rights of the 10 decreed sprinnggs that exist directly east and downstream
from the deepest part of the proposedpit, Should the appkcant not be wilting to
submit complete and detailed plans to mine the property without altering or
impacting historic existing water nghts, then his permit should be turned down.
Contanimation of ground water and surface water is of concern. Halderson and Sons,
Inc. need to present a clear plan that is for public review before a decision is made
regarding their permit.
A Hvdrol is investigation needs to be done. A number of wells should be drilled
over ali 156 acres and as deep as the deepest part of the mining operation that will
be tested. These test should be ongoing for at least one year on a regular monthly
schedule and the data be available for the public scrutiny before a deasion is made
or a mining permit is issued.
Cro I~ is a issue here. The present plan is not suffiaent to reclaim the land to it's
original level. To reclaim the land as crop land it should be not more that 10 feet
below the present level of the land or two feet above the highest ground water
recorded on the property during the hydrologic testing period. The present plan to
reclaim it as crop land is inadequate. The proposed pit will be 5000 + feet long, and
1000+ wide and 40 feet deep where there is noted to be a high water table, it is I
not conceivable to reclaim this pit as good crop land.
Up to this time we have not had an opportunity to see test resuRs on which
Halderson & Sons, Inc. is basing their claims of gravel deposits, overburden, topsoil
and the lack of ground water. Would the DMG make this report available for public
review?
We are concerned that the arr qualip/ studies and water quality„studies be paid for
by Halderson & Sons Inc. not the public tax payer during the proposed 25 years
of mining.
