• • iiiiiiiiii
99
September 15, 1978 SEP 18 1978
MINED LAND RECLAMATION
Colo. Dept. of Natural Resources
Mined Land Reclamation Board
1313 Sherman, Room 723
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Bestway Paving Company and Gilsabind Convidar
Application for Mining Permit
Gentlemen:
I have reviewed the original plan submitted by this company very
carefully. I have also reviewed their most recent plan, which,
by the way, is not on file in the Weld County Clerk and Recorder' s
Office, but is available in the Weld County Board of Commissioner ' s
Office. This letter is to implore you to deny the permit and I
submit the following reasons :
1. It is my firm belief that it is impossible
to conduct a mining operation of this type
in the middle of a residential neighborhood
without severe impact on the quality of life
of the residents.
2. I do not believe that sufficient studies
have been conducted regarding air pollution,
water usage, earth stability and noise.
In fact, I find none in the current file.
3. I find discrepancies in the Operations
Standards as set forth by the Weld County
Board of Commissioners and the plan now
submitted.
4 . The file which I have reviewed in the office
of the Weld County Board of Commissioners
does not contain information regarding the
three lawsuits presently pending in the Weld
County District Court against Bestway Paving
Company and centered around the affected land,
but perhaps that is not a necessary part of
that file.
I hereby urge you to carefully consider the above and deny
the application for an open pit mining operation by Bestway
Paving Company and Gilsabind Convidar.
Very truly yours,
Mauna S. Reed
415 35th Ave. Court
Greeley, CO 80631
